Skating Information

Adult Skating:
I started taking private lessons in 1992. This is when I seriously committed myself to skating. I was twenty-five years old.
Childhood Skating:
I took a basic group skating class as a very young child. It lasted about eight weeks. I did not compete, perform, or continue with private lessons. I rarely ice skated otherwise. Rinks were not nearby and my parents were not interested in committing to a sport. I roller skated recreationally in the neighborhood from early childhood through high school and into college. I never took lessons.
Testing Experience:
I took USFSA Prepreliminary Moves in the Field and Freestyle in December 1999. I passed Adult Pre-Bronze in April 2001. Although I worked on Preliminary Moves with the intention of testing, I decided skating tests make me nervous and detract from my enjoyment of the sport. I have not tested since. Since I chose not to pursue testing, my test level does not accurately represent my freestyle proficiency.
Skating Disciplines:
During fall 2002, I began ice dance lessons and am working on the following patterns: Dutch Waltz, Canasta Tango, Rhythm Blues, ChaCha, and Swing Dance.
I also skate freestyle and moves in the field.
Competitive Status:
I have never competed and have no present plans to enter competitive events. By nature, I am not a performer and believe nervousness would detract from my love of skating.
Rotational Direction:
Clockwise (opposite most everyone else)
Favorite Skating Move to Perform:
Layback Spin (You will see a lot of them on this web site.)
Best Jump:
Single Loop (This one is really nice!)
Best Spin:
Layback, flying camel (all of my basic spins are good)
Jumps in Progress:
Double salchow, double loop, double flip
Spins in Progress:
Layback-forward camel combination, backward to forward combinations
Most Difficult Move:
Axel (I have not been practicing them lately)
Most Frustrating Move:
Traveling Camel
Showcase Move:
Stars into a flying camel, often combined with a backsit or layover position
Dream Move:
This is a difficult choice. There are so many desirable skating moves. I could take the easy way out and say that I would like to do a triple or even a quad. To be reasonable, I would like to have a big beautiful delayed axel.
