Original Skating Costumes ![]()
Skating dress constructed from border-print nylon/lycra knit.
This dress was made from a pattern I designed. It has a dirndl skirt with side slits, constrast cuffs and ribbon rose neckline detail.
I wore this dress for my pre-preliminary tests.
Read the journal entry about these tests.Polka dotted costume with organza skirt.
This dress was also made from a pattern I designed. Its full skirt consists of a navy blue overlay and white underlayer. If I were to make this style dress again, I would use a solid colored fabric for the panty so the polka dots
(or other pattern) does not show through the translucent skirt.
Read the journal entry about making this dress.
Velvet Skating Dress
Brown velvet glitter skating leotard and skirt combination.
My husband selected this fabric for me.
The sparkles are copper glitter that is applied in a swirled pattern.
I wore this dress for my Adult Pre-Bronze test.
Read the journal entry about this test.

I liked this fabric so well that I made a two-piece dress from it so the leotard could be worn as a fashion garment under a blazer. It has leg o'mutton sleeves and a keyhole back. |
An advantage of sewing is that every piece can be made to personal specifications. I cut this skirt longer in the back for the sake of modesty and to provide a flattering elongated line. |

The skirt is made of matching material with a |
It has a princess seamed bodice and ribbon rose embellishments on the straps. This was actually a bathing suit pattern and I have worn it swimming. Since I skate in cold rinks and am not bold enough to skate with bare shoulders, I prefer to wear a sweatshirt over this dress. |

This dress was the first fancy skating costume I made. It is several years old and has rarely been worn. Its bouffant skirt is not my best look. Read about this dress in the journal. |
This is another early skating costume I made based on the same pattern as the black dress. It has a double layer coin dot illusion skirt edged with satin ribbon and matching sleeve ruffles. |

This blouse is made of printed acetate slinky knit. It can be drawn up at the side seams with satin cording. It is very flattering. |
Although I did not ice dance at the time, I made this long glamorous skirt out of a remnant of chiffon. The dimensional design is woven into the fabric. The handkerchief hem flutters when I skate. |
