Back on the Ice

Split Jump Take-Off

split take-off

This is the take-off into a split jump entered from a mohawk turn.
At this point, my picking toe is still in the ice.
I have had trouble lifting the trailing leg and hope to work on this skill in a training harness.

Gliding Skills

The "Kay Pike".
I need to squat a little deeper.

inside spread eagle

This inside eagle could be improved by straightening the legs.

outside spread eagle

Last season, I spent a few minutes each session on the outside eagle and was making respectable progress. Now this skill is in a state of disrepair.

Spins, Always a Favorite

Entering the sideways leaning spin.
Note the height and extension of the free leg.

sideways layback

This novel layback variation begins as a sideways leaning spin then rolls to a layback position.

backward camel

This was not a good back camel.
I salvaged it by clasping my arms behind my back. The skating leg is not straight enough.

back spin

The basic upright backspin is one of the most difficult spins for adults to learn. My posture is very erect with a high free knee and foot crossed over the skating leg.

These are two views of a forward headless scratch spin.
In the first picture (left) I am facing the camera and my head is entirely hidden.
In the second picture(right), my right side is turned toward the camera.
I am spinning clockwise on my right leg and the left leg is crossed over the right.
