Working Out at the Gym

These pictures were taken during December 2004 while on vacation.

I love working out on rowing machines. Unfortunately, the gym at home does not have one, so I especially enjoy them on vacation. Someday I would like to learn to row a sculling boat.

preparing for a leg lift

This equipment allows the person to brace him or herself for a leg lift that combines both leg and abdominal strength. Again, my gym at home does not have one of these. I would like to buy one for my house. This combination of strength building seems to be the key to positional jumps such as splits and stags that require strong leg and ab muscles to quickly achieve position against gravity.

Left: a straight leg lift in action. This lift achieves a pike position which is rarely seen in skating.
Right: A tuck leg position. This would make a great variation on a delayed axel. (In my dreams.)
