Indoor Artistic Inline Skating

Welcome to the Roller Rink!

These pictures were taken in a small dark roller rink.
In spite of my efforts to make them as presentable as possible; they are very dark, washed out, and grainy.
I am wearing rockered inline roller skates,
which are designed to simulate the action and balance of freestyle ice skating blades.
Read the journal entry about this skating adventure.
The photographs on this page were taken Labor Day Weekend, 2002.

Basic Gliding Movements

A basic forward inside glide.
Look at those leg muscles!
A basic forward glide on the flat.

gliding on wheels
gliding with high free leg
Another simple glide.
Pretty arms and eye contact with the camera.
A basic glide with a high free leg.
I need to straighten the leg!

Pivoting on Wheels

Note the toe firmly planted on the floor.

Now I have to translate the straightness of this skill to my inside eagle.
With the hands on the thighs. This variation is on an inside edge.

An Eagle from Afar

What a lovely position!
Note the tacky disco ball and spot lights.

Miscellaneous Positions
spiral
hockey glide
piked position
Forward outside spiral.
This is harder to control on inlines than a flat spiral.
Two-foot hockey glide.
A pretty move in spite of its name.
Piked glide.
Not quite deep enough for a shoot-the-duck.
This position is very hard to maintain on wheels.

Skating in the Arcade

You just cannot ice skate on indoor-outdoor carpet!
As a child, I thought being able to actually skate into the bathroom at a roller rink was such a thrill.
Here I am reliving some of that fun.
