When my group skating lessons ended, I was not mentally mature enough to rationalize the potential consequences of skating or not skating on the rest of my life. I did not know that children training to be serious competitors get out of bed at four in the morning, eat only healthy foods and do not play with neighborhood friends. I can give myself credit for the ingenuity and steadfastness to continue my dream of becoming a figure skater. That childhood beginner class was not the end of my skating.
"Saving Grace, the Life of an Adult Figure Skater" is the story of a woman who has loved skating since early childhood. Instead of abandoning her dream to be a skater when her parents were unsupportive, she perservered and enjoyed figure skating as an adult. Throughout the challenges of growing up, pursuing higher education and taking her chances in the corporate world; skating has been Kate's constant companion. It provided her with comfort and numerous challenges.
