Stretching by the Sea

Various Split Positions
barre split

Using the ship's railing as a ballet barre to achieve a full split.

side split

Standing split position, held to the side.

floor split

Almost a full split.
Too much friction between the deck and my tennis shoes prevented me from sliding all the way down.

These hamstring stretches were performed next to the window of our cabin.

Spiral Stretches
catch foot

Catch foot spiral.
Several years ago, I used to do a camel spin in this position. It was always difficult for me. I have not practiced it recently.

charlotte

This position works the inner thigh and hamstring of opposing legs. It is an excellent stretch for Charlotte spirals, a skill I would love to have in my arsenal.

spiral
The objective of this stretch is to enhance the applitude of spirals. It is not a classic champagne glass position, and my free leg should be straighter.

Quad Stretches
quad stretch

Basic quad stretch.
Pulling the leg directly behind the body extends the quadreceps. I do this before and after skating.

quad stretch

Turning the hip out and lifting the calf parallel to the floor promotes limberness for attitude spins.
